The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York

Lucas West, a SUNY Fredonia senior, made his mark on NBCโ€™s The Voice, finishing third in the season finale on April 14, 2026.

Known for his versatile vocals and skilled piano performances, West wowed audiences and coaches alike โ€” especially with his semifinals performance of Paul McCartneyโ€™s Maybe Iโ€™m Amazed.

Coach John Legend praised him as โ€œthe whole package,โ€ while Westโ€™s hometown of Fredonia showed their pride by hosting a Williams Center watch party.

Dr. Sarah Hamilton, Interim Dean at Fredoniaโ€™s College of Music, Theatre and Dance, highlighted the universityโ€™s role in nurturing his path to national acclaim.

Westโ€™s journey began with a memorable blind audition of Bennie and the Jets, landing him on Team Legend and propelling him through memorable rounds.

West credits his mentors and the supportive Fredonia community for helping him grow, as he looks ahead to new artistic horizons.

The triumph of NASAโ€™s Artemis II mission is closely tied to the expertise of over 1,000 team members at Moog Inc. in East Aurora, NY. Their work powered the missionโ€™s journey from liftoff, through lunar orbit, and safely back to Earth.

Moogโ€™s advanced thrust vector control actuators precisely guided the rocket, while their environmental systems aboard Orion kept astronauts safe and comfortable.

Director of Engineering Dan Wilson expressed how deeply emotional the achievement was for Moog and the region, showing profound local pride.

Moogโ€™s story in space exploration stretches back to the Saturn V and Space Shuttle programs. With Artemis III planned for 2027, Moog will again provide critical expertiseโ€”this time for a complex docking trial in orbit, strengthening Buffaloโ€™s legacy at the forefront of cutting-edge space missions.

Premier Place Plaza in Williamsville has been acquired for $20.8 million by Miami-based HBM Properties, marking their first move into the Western New York market.

The 10.74-acre retail center at 7864-8020 Transit Road was previously owned by DLC Management Corp. and stands out for its strong lineup of tenants.

Anchored by top-performing Premier Wine & Spirits, the plaza features popular stores like Harbor Freight Tools, Boot Barn, and Chipotle, maintaining a vibrant shopping environment.

Recent leases with Rally House and Alibaba Kebab added nearly 25,000 square feet of new businesses, further boosting the centerโ€™s appeal.

Its location along Transit Road, near major retailers like Wegmans, Target, and Walmart, positions the plaza for ongoing foot traffic and growth.

Upcoming redevelopment at Eastern Hills Mall is expected to drive even more economic activity to the area.
